Initial Flood Warning For The Pilbara Coastal Rivers

LOCALISED FLOODING OCCURRING OR EXPECTED ABOUT PILBARA COAST
 Heavy to intense rainfall totals have been observed about coastal parts of the Pilbara Coastal Rivers catchment with the offshore passage of Tropical Cyclone Sean. In the 24 hours to 9:00 am Monday, 274 mm was recorded at Karratha Airport, and 113 mm was recorded at Roebourne Airport. A tropical cyclone warning is current, which includes the risk of heavy rain across the Pilbara Coast.
 River, creek, and stream level rises with localised flooding are expected to be occurring in coastal areas of the catchment. Further showers and thunderstorms remain possible during the remainder of Monday and into Tuesday, which may cause further river, creek and stream level rises.
 A Flood Watch for parts of the Kimberley and the Pilbara district is current.

Pilbara Coastal Rivers:
Elevated river, creek, and stream levels are expected to be occurring in coastal parts of the catchment. Localised flooding and transport disruptions are expected. Isolation of some communities is possible.

Flood Safety Advice:
DFES advises people and communities to be aware that flooding is possible and be prepared to relocate equipment and livestock. Watch water levels. Travellers need to be aware that road conditions may be adversely affected and travel plans may need to be reconsidered. Do not drive into water of unknown depth and velocity.}
