MAJOR FLOODING POSSIBLE AT MULLUMBIMBY AND AT BILLINUDGEL FROM FRIDAY MORNING
Moderate to heavy rainfall associated with Tropical Cyclone Alfred has been recorded across the Brunswick River and Marshalls Creek catchments since Wednesday. Forecast heavy to intense rainfall has the potential to cause dangerous and rapid river level rises.
Across the Brunswick River and Marshalls Creek catchments, flooding is possible with forecast rainfall. Minor flooding is likely at Brunswick River at Mullumbimby and Marshalls Creek at Billinudgel overnight Thursday. River level rises to the major flood level are possible with forecast rainfall from Friday morning. Further rises are possible across the catchments over the next several days with forecast rainfall.
A Tropical Cyclone Advice, Severe Weather Warning and Coastal Hazards Warning is current for NSW including the Brunswick River and Marshalls Creek catchments.
Further heavy rainfall is forecast across the catchment for the next several days as TC Alfred makes landfall. The timing and location of the heaviest falls will depend on the track of the cyclone. This situation is being closely monitored and warnings will be updated as necessary.
Marshalls Creek:
Major flooding may occur along the Marshalls Creek.
The Marshalls Creek at Billinudgel is currently at 1.30 metres and steady, below the minor flood level.
The Marshalls Creek at Billinudgel is likely to exceed the minor flood level (2.50 m) overnight Thursday into Friday. The river level may exceed the moderate flood level (3.00 m) early Friday morning and may reach the major flood level (3.50 m) from Friday morning with forecast rainfall.
Brunswick River:
Major flooding may occur along the Brunswick River.
The Brunswick River at Mullumbimby (Federation Bridge) is currently at 0.99 metres and falling, below the minor flood level.
The Brunswick River at Mullumbimby (Federation Bridge) is likely to exceed the minor flood level (2.50 m) overnight Thursday into Friday. The river level may exceed the moderate flood level (3.50 m) early Friday morning and may reach the major flood level (4.50 m) from Friday morning with forecast rainfall.
