    Moderate Flood Warning For The Haughton River Catchment And Flood Warning For The Major Creek Catchment

    MODERATE FLOODING POSSIBLE AT GIRU LATE SATURDAY MORNING
     Heavy rainfall has been recorded across the Haughton River catchment from Thursday morning. This has resulted in rapid river level rises, with an initial flood peak around the minor flood level at Giru early Friday morning. Renewed rises are occurring along the Haughton River at Giru.
     Further rain, likely heavy at times, is forecast for the early Saturday morning, which is very likely to cause further river and creek level rises. With forecast rainfall, moderate flooding is possible at Giru from late Saturday morning.
     A Flood Watch is current for catchments between Cooktown and Mackay, including the Haughton River catchment. A Severe Weather Warning is current for parts of Herbert and Lower Burdekin and Central Coast and Whitsundays Forecast Districts, including the Haughton catchment. The situation is being closely monitored and warnings will be updated as required.
    
    Major Creek:
    Elevated river and creek levels are occurring or expected across the Major Creek catchment.
    Haughton River:
    Moderate flooding may occur along the Haughton River.
    The Haughton River at Giru is currently at 1.73 metres and rising, below the minor flood level.
    The Haughton River at Giru is likely to exceed the minor flood level (1.80 m) early Saturday morning. With forecast rainfall, the river level may reach the moderate flood level (2.10 m) late Saturday morning. Higher levels and further rises into the weekend are possible if further heavy rainfall develops from early Saturday morning.
